inside the city of Falluja

On
25, 26 December 2004, visits to Anbar Directorate of water and AL-Azraqiyah WTP
were made to stand on the actual situation inside Falluja, the following were
reported:
·
Security
and accessibility
1.
According
to the attached Falluja map, the Red bordered area is accessible only for Iraqi
emergency officials and one family member who live in that sector.
2.
The rest
areas are completely inaccessible for the time being.
·
Utilities
1.
Complete
paralysis in most of utilities in parallel with huge collapse in the
infrastructures.
2.
An official
committee was formed to undertake urgent actions to reduce the burden of
services failure in the accessible area.
·
Water
projects and networks situation:
According to head of emergency official water team the
following were reported:
1.
Networks:
The initial assessments for the damaged networks are
80%, thus water treatment plants, if to be operated, can not pump water to the
end-users.
2.
Elevated tanks:
The three elevated tanks inside Falluja are out of
function due to direct shoots.
3.
Projects:

Recommendations:
1-
Trying to
speed up the awarding of AL-Azraqiayh and Falluja city elevated tanks CAGs which
are still at bidding process in General Directorate of Water.
2-
Delivering
of additional two mobile compact units as requested by Anbar Directorate of
water letter No. 4359 dated on 25 December 2004.
3-
Distribute
water via tankers to Falluja returnees.
4-
Facilitate
Anbar / Falluja projects contracts submitted to supply section.
5-
Undertake
delivering the collapsible bags and purification tablets mentioned in the last
emergency team e-mail.
6-
Co-ordinate
with the NGOs working in same area to avoid interference in services delivering.
